The Freestylers, a dance group from Calamba, Laguna, becomes the 1st Pilipinas Got Talent Season 2 grand finalist when the group got the highest number of text and online votes during the first semi-finals' results night Sunday, May 1, 2011.

They got a high 46.32% of the total votes, which was more than half of the 2nd placer, Romarico Sanorjo aka Rico The Magician, who only had 22.31%.

Rico The Magician and the 3rd placer, the Madrigal Siblings which got 14.11%, had to compete against each other to win the judges' votes and earn the 2nd slot to the grand finals.

Judge FMG picked Rico The Magician while Kris Aquino and Ai-Ai delas Alas chose the Madrigal Siblings, who gave an outstanding performance of "Ako Ay Pilipino".

PILIPINAS (PGT) 1ST SEMI-FINALS RESULTS:
1. Freestylers, Calamba, Laguna (dance group) 46.32% - VOTERS' CHOICE
2. Romarico Sanorjo aka Rico The Magician, 60, Caloocan City 22.31%

5. Jeremie Tampoy, 29, Maa, Davao City (Blind singer and pianist) 5.09%
6. Light Gauge Acoustic, Eroreco, Bacolod City (band) 4.36%

It was actually a surprise that the Freestylers won the votes bigtime. I actually thought Rico The Magician will top the votes.

The country’s biggest nationwide talent-reality show “Pilipinas Got Talent” is set to conquer your TV screens once more as its much-awaited second season kicks off this first quarter of 2011.

Auditions started recently where thousands of hopefuls coming from Visayas and Mindanao flocked to the Cebu Institute of Technology University in Cebu and Philippine Women’s College in Davao and showed what they got in hopes of following the footsteps of PGT’s first grand winner Jovit Baldivino.

The team only visited two locations but the turnout of applicants already surpassed the combined number of applicants who auditioned in almost 20 cities during the first season.

“The number of people who auditioned is very overwhelming. We cant event take a break because the number of hopefuls to be interviewed and to be watched will surely pile up in a matter of minutes,” said Rancy Recato, Executive Producer of PGT.

Pinoys showed better and more intense talents be it singing, dancing, or even unique and unconventional acts.

Even applicants during the first season auditioned once more and trying their second shot at stardom.

“Pilipinas Got Talent” is indeed one of the most successful and most watched talent-reality show on Philippine TV and its grand winner Jovit Baldivino is definitely soaring greater heights with the break given to him by the show. Even finalists like the breakdancing Velasco Brothers, Ezra Band, singers Sherwin Baguion and Markki Stroem, magician Alakim, ventriloquist Ruther Urquia, and guitarist Keith Clark Delleva are already making their marks and taking their respective paths in the industry.

The show also performed very well in ratings. It was able to hit a high of 43.1% only on its second week of airing based on national ratings data from Kantar Media.

PGT also trended a couple of times in the famous social networking site Twitter, which only proves how widely viewed the show is by Pinoys worldwide.

To all PGT hopefuls, you can audition on Dec 15 and 16 at the Lyceum Northwestern University in Dagupan, and on Dec 18 and 19 at the ABS-CBN complex in Manila. Everyone is welcome to join, be it young or old; solo or in groups; as long as you have the talent to sing, dance, do magic, do extreme exhibitions, and any other possible form of talents. Other audition legs on other parts of the country will be held on January 2011.

Are you the next “Pilipinas Got Talent” grand winner? Which act will bring home the victory this second season? Watch out as the show returns very soon on ABS-CBN.

Fil-Am Lincecum powers SF giants to World Series win

Taylor_Swift_Live_in_Manila_2011Filipino-American pitcher Tim Lincecum powered the San Francisco Giants to win their first World Series title since 1954 on Monday, defeating the Texas Rangers 4-1 to capture Major League Baseball's best-of-seven final.

It was the 6th all-time World Series crown for the Giants but their first in 56 years and the first since they moved to California from New York in 1958.

San Francisco's shortstop Edgar Renteria blasted a three-run home run in the 7th inning for the decisive hit, giving Texas southpaw Cliff Lee 6 2/3 scoreless innings. The victory has bestowed him the 106th World Series Most Valuable Player after going 7-for-17 at the plate, a .412 average, with 2 homers and 6 runs batted in 5 five games.

In 1997, he singled home the Series-winning run for the Florida Marlins in the 7th game.

Meanwhile, the 26-year-old Lincecum held the Rangers to only three hits over 8 innings, including a solo home run by Texas outfielder Nelson Cruz in the 7th inning. He then assented to Giants closer Brian Wilson who entered in the 9th, with the last 3 outs set the team to victory.

"We did it as a team. We put it together and that's how we won it," Lincecum said, with a just-embossed 2-0 World Series record.

With a nickname “The Freak,” Lincecum with his team dubbed as "castoffs and misfits" has made the championship boost morale over the team in their Fall Classics loses in 1962, 1989 and 2002.

"They wouldn't be denied. I couldn't be prouder of this group,” Giants manager Bruce Bochy said.

After being picked to start Game 1 against Texas’ Lee in Game 1, Lincecum has gained a popular Filipino following.

He is the first pitcher in MLB history to win the prestigious Cy Young Award in each of his first two full seasons. He is also the only pitcher to strike out more than 260 hitters in each of those two seasons.

In February, Lincecum became the highest-paid pitcher in his first year of eligibility in Major League Baseball (MLB) after signing a $23 million two-year deal with the San Francisco Giants.

The deal was reported to surpass the record set by Boston closer Jonathan Papelbon who signed for $6.25 million last year in 2009.

Pilipinas Got Talent: Finalists name their toughest rivals

‘Pilipinas Got Talent’ finalists name their toughest rivals.
Only one among the twelve acts of Pilipinas Got Talent will be crowned as the grand winner as the top-rating reality-talent show reaches its season finale this June 12 and 13, live at the Araneta Coliseum. In a press conference, the twelve finalists named who among their fellow

Ruther Urquia (ventriloquist/puppet master)

Allan ‘Alakim’ De Paz (magician)

Markki Stroem (singer)
Quantify the percentage of the text votes. This (PGT) is first of all based on how the people vote. Jovit had the highest votes compared to the five other contestants he was up against. When you quantify that, he is in fact the strongest competitor among all of us.

Keith Clark Delleva (electric guitar player)
Velasco Brothers po. I’ve seen them perform live at talagang grabe. Napakagaling.

Velasco Brothers (acrobat hip hop dance group)
Si Alakim. Kasi alam namin ‘yung gagawin niya sa huli (finals), ha ha ha! Nakakabilib po talaga.

Ezra Band (rock band)
Velasco Brothers po. Ang gaganda ng mga acts nila. Super extraordinary. Hindi magagawa ng karaniwan.

Sherwin Baguion (singer)

Maria Jeline Oliva (violinist/pianist)

Ingrid Payaket (classical singer)

Baguio Metamorphosis (dance group)
Si Jovit po.

Jovit Baldivino (rock singer)

I Will Always Love You" at nagbelly dancing ala-Shakira.
